WELCOME
Thank you for participating in the Deaths in Custody data collection program.
Since 2001, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has collected inmate
death records in order to implement the "Death in Custody Reporting Act of
2000" (see P.L. 106-297). Thanks to the efforts of correctional
administrators nationwide, BJS receives inmate death data from 99% of all
jail jurisdictions and all 50 State prison systems.
This website can be used to submit inmate death reports for the following institutions:
| |
local jails (forms CJ-9 & CJ-9A) |
| |
private and multi-jurisdictional jails (CJ-10 & CJ-10A) |
| |
State prison systems (NPS-4 & NPS-4A) |
